Smokestack Band Members
:::James Sibley:::
James Sibley provides Smokestack with his signature vocals and keyboard stylings. He has been described as “…very Hornsby in his writing and singing, very Medeski with his jams.” James received a degree in Music and Economics from the University of Michigan in the Spring of 2002. He has played keyboards professionally for several years and has previously been involved with various acts in the Denver area working under the Colorado booking company Mary Mitchell Presents. He is trained in jazz and studied for two years under Ellen Rowe, professor of jazz studies at the University of Michigan School of Music in Ann Arbor. James also studied jazz arranging under Dennis Wilson, professor of jazz studies at the University of Michigan.

As a full-time professional musician, James spends his time practicing and composing. Sibley considers himself lucky to be among such a talented group of musicians.

Some of James' influences include Bill Evans, Chick Corea, Thelonious Monk, John Medeski, Kyle Hollingsworth and Michel Camilo.
